Aether Fuels Appoints Dhaval Shah as CTO to Scale Sustainable Aviation Fuel Platform
  • Aether Fuels has appointed Dhaval Shah as CTO as it moves its Aurora™ sustainable fuels platform toward commercial deployment.
  • Shah brings more than 25 years of global technology leadership across catalysis, chemicals, advanced materials, circular economy, and decarbonization.
  • The appointment comes as Aether advances Project Beacon in Singapore and operates a demonstration facility in North Carolina.

Aether Strengthens Leadership as SAF Commercialization Accelerates

Aether Fuels has appointed Dhaval Shah as Chief Technology Officer, adding a veteran commercialization leader as the company pushes its Aurora™ platform from demonstration into commercial deployment.

The move places Shah at the center of Aether’s technology strategy. His role will cover exploratory research, platform scale-up, and closer integration between technology, engineering, and business development teams.

For the sustainable aviation fuel market, the appointment comes at a critical point. Airlines, fuel buyers, and policymakers are under pressure to expand reliable SAF supply. Yet high costs, feedstock limits, and project execution risks continue to slow the sector.

Aether is positioning Aurora as a platform that can produce SAF and other sustainable liquid hydrocarbons from waste and bio-derived carbon feedstocks. The company says Shah’s appointment strengthens its ability to move that technology into commercial projects.

Shah Brings Deep Commercialization Experience

Shah joins Aether with more than 25 years of global technology leadership experience. His career spans catalysis, chemicals, process development, advanced materials, and large-scale deployment.

He has led multidisciplinary teams from concept through commercialization. Across his career, he helped launch six technology platforms. Those platforms generated more than $100 million in sales and created long-term growth opportunities of more than $1 billion.

Most recently, Shah held senior technology leadership roles at SABIC. There, he led global innovation programs focused on decarbonization, circular economy solutions, advanced materials, and sustainable manufacturing.

His work included helping launch SABIC’s TRUCIRCLE™ portfolio. He also advanced technologies targeting the recycling of one million tons of plastic annually by 2030. In addition, he helped demonstrate the world’s first electrically fired cracker in collaboration with BASF and Linde.

Shah has also served on the boards of Carbon Hub at Rice University and the Clean Combustion Research Center at KAUST. He holds 15 patents.

“As we transition into commercial deployment and further expand our technology leadership, Dhaval’s experience scaling breakthrough technologies and building world-class innovation organizations will be invaluable,” said Conor Madigan, CEO and Co-Founder of Aether Fuels. “His track record of commercializing transformative technologies, combined with his deep expertise in decarbonization and process innovation, makes him an ideal leader for the next phase of Aether’s growth.”

Aurora Platform Moves Toward Commercial Scale

As CTO, Shah will lead Aether’s Technology organization. His remit includes both exploratory research and continued advancement of the Aurora platform.

That work will be closely tied to engineering and business development. For Aether, the challenge is not only proving technical performance. It must also show that its process can integrate into commercial fuel projects at scale.

“I am excited to join Aether at a pivotal moment in the company’s journey,” said Shah. “The team has developed an innovative technology platform with the potential to significantly increase the availability of sustainable fuels while simultaneously lowering costs. I look forward to working with the talented team at Aether to help scale Aurora from demonstration to commercial deployment and support the company’s mission of producing sustainable, drop-in fuels from waste and bio-derived carbon feedstocks.”

The company is currently developing Project Beacon in Singapore. Aether describes it as the region’s first next-generation commercial-scale SAF project. The company is also operating a demonstration facility in North Carolina.

For investors and strategic partners, that dual footprint matters. It gives Aether a pathway to test, validate, and scale its technology across different markets. It also places the company within a broader SAF race, where project readiness and bankable execution are increasingly decisive.

Why It Matters for Climate and Capital Markets

Aviation remains one of the hardest sectors to decarbonize. SAF has become a core lever for airlines seeking to reduce lifecycle emissions without replacing aircraft fleets.

But global supply remains limited. Producers face intense scrutiny over cost, feedstock sustainability, lifecycle carbon performance, and regulatory eligibility. This has made technology leadership a governance issue as much as an engineering challenge.

Aether’s leadership hire reflects that reality. Companies seeking to win SAF offtake, project finance, or policy support must prove they can execute beyond the lab. They need technology that can scale, teams that can deliver, and processes that can withstand investor diligence.

“Aether’s ability to attract a leader of Dhaval’s caliber is a strong validation of both our technology and our commercialization strategy,” added Madigan. “As we continue to grow our organization and advance commercial projects, we remain focused on building a world class team capable of delivering sustainable fuel projects at meaningful scale.”

Shah’s appointment gives Aether added technical depth as the SAF market enters a more demanding phase. The next test will be execution. For airlines, investors, and governments, scalable low-carbon fuel supply is no longer a future ambition. It is becoming a near-term infrastructure priority.
