EcoVadis, Novata Partner on Scope 3 Carbon Data
  • EcoVadis will embed verified supplier carbon data directly into Novata’s sustainability management platform.
  • The integration is designed to replace spend-based estimates with primary data for more accurate Scope 3.1 calculations.
  • The partnership expands EcoVadis’ Carbon Data Network as companies face tighter investor and regulatory scrutiny over emissions reporting.

EcoVadis and Novata have formed a partnership to improve access to verified supplier carbon data for companies and private market investors.

The collaboration will integrate EcoVadis supplier emissions metrics directly into Novata’s sustainability management platform. The companies aim to give users more accurate data for Scope 3 accounting and decarbonization planning.

The partnership also expands EcoVadis’ Carbon Data Network, or CDN. The network connects primary emissions data with carbon accounting and sustainability platforms.

For companies grappling with large and complex value chains, the integration addresses a persistent problem. Scope 3 emissions often depend heavily on estimates because reliable supplier-level information remains difficult to obtain.

Moving Beyond Spend-Based Emissions Estimates

Through the integration, corporate clients and investment firms can route primary supplier emissions data into Novata’s platform.

EcoVadis will provide supplier data and carbon maturity analytics drawn directly from company supply chains. Novata will then ingest that information into its carbon management tools.

The approach is intended to reduce reliance on sector averages and spend-based emissions factors.

Users will instead be able to calculate more precise Scope 3.1 emissions associated with purchased goods and services. They can also examine carbon data by location and activity type.

That greater granularity can help companies identify which suppliers or activities account for the largest share of emissions. Management teams can then focus procurement engagement and capital on areas with greater decarbonization potential.

“Building a truly resilient and transparent global supply chain requires deep interoperability across the climate tech ecosystem,” said Dexter Galvin, SVP Climate at EcoVadis. “By welcoming Novata to our rapidly expanding Carbon Data Network, we are making it easier than ever for corporations and financial institutions to shift from spend-based estimates to precise primary data. This integration empowers users with the trusted data engine needed to calculate reliable Scope 3 footprints and drive real, measurable decarbonization.”

Carbon Data Faces Growing Scrutiny

The partnership also incorporates EcoVadis’ Carbon Data Reliability Level Framework.

The framework is designed to assess the reliability of corporate emissions information using EcoVadis methodology and data from its Carbon Data Network.

Data quality has become an increasingly important governance issue for sustainability teams. Companies face growing pressure to demonstrate how emissions figures were calculated and whether reported reductions reflect operational changes.

Investors face similar challenges. Private market firms increasingly need portfolio-level sustainability information that can support reporting, risk management and engagement with portfolio companies.

Primary data can improve those assessments by reducing dependence on broad industry assumptions.

“To effectively navigate today’s rigorous regulatory environment and meet investor expectations, businesses need granular, verifiable data,” said Conor O’Laoire, Head of Global Partnerships at Novata. “Partnering with EcoVadis allows us to securely ingest verified primary carbon metrics directly into Novata’s platform. This integration gives our clients the clarity they need to move beyond industry averages, gain precise visibility into their supply chains, and execute highly targeted sustainability strategies.”

Scope 3 Data Becomes a Strategic Issue

Scope 3 emissions remain one of the most difficult areas of corporate climate reporting. They often account for the majority of an organization’s overall carbon footprint while sitting outside its direct operational control.

That makes supplier engagement critical.

Better primary data can also affect investment decisions, procurement policies and transition planning. Companies with stronger emissions visibility can identify carbon-intensive suppliers and measure progress against reduction strategies more accurately.

For investors, stronger portfolio data can improve climate risk analysis and strengthen engagement with underlying companies.

Novata now joins other sustainability platforms participating in EcoVadis’ Carbon Data Network. EcoVadis is positioning the network as infrastructure for sharing higher-quality emissions information across corporate supply chains.

For executives and investors, the partnership reflects a broader shift in carbon management. Regulatory compliance remains important, but data quality is increasingly becoming part of financial and operational decision-making.

As Scope 3 scrutiny grows globally, companies that can trace emissions to primary supplier data will be better positioned to defend their disclosures, allocate decarbonization resources and demonstrate credible progress against climate targets.
